Manufacturing employment growth in the UK’s manufacturing sector reached its highest level in more than three years in October 2017 according to the latest survey.
UK manufacturing expanded at a much faster rate than expected, as the sector grew by 0.7 per cent in September compared with the previous month — more than double the pace of the market’s expectation of 0.3 per cent month-on-month growth. That, together with an increase in export orders driving the expansion, led to the 15th successive month of job creation in the industry.
The third quarter of 2017 saw demand for manufacturing talent and the number of vacancies higher than the same time 2016.
There were nearly 10% more vacancies than in the third quarter of 2016, an indicator of the long-term state of the market that has seen the number of vacancies more than double since the final quarter of 2014.
