The Soft Skills Needed In A 2019 Workplace

January 14, 2019

There’s no doubting that you’re a pro at your job! Learning new skills and abilities however can be one great way of tackling the wild ride which is a rapidly changing working environment. Demonstrating a new skill set can show that you are prepared for any challenges your current employer may face.

Here are 5 soft skills which employees should have to get ahead in 2019 and beyond.

1. A Willingness To Learn

Do this by listening to the latest podcasts, reading new blogs and researching the competition. Keep up with current trends will be vital to how you,  your team and company can work together to have a great year.

2. Understanding Customers and Clients

What are your customers expecting from you this year? A question which should be ongoing as trends change over the upcoming months. Communication with clients needs to be crystal clear. It’s important to maintain regular, open communication. This way both parties remain happy with the service provided and any changes can be mutually agreed on easily.

3. Adapting To Change

A BIG tick if you have this skill set. People who are willing to step out their comfort zone means they can look forward towards change and innovation. Developing this skill set can be rewarding in your career as it means you can stand out above the rest and always be ahead of the game.

4. Communication Skills

Make sure that everyone’s reading off the same page. Employees should be fully briefed on what is happening inside the organisation via emails and messages. The benefit of this will be that. in meetings, employees will be able to bring ideas to the table for discussion and you can make a valuable contribution to any discussions. Communicating your views effectively will show your value to the organisation, but crucially, it’s how you communicate this is what makes a difference.

5. Being and Keeping Organised

Employees who show great attention to detail, who update their files and keep detailed records are the employees who should be recognised as role models for their effective  organisation.  Project management and forward planning within a business are key and  should be carried out and reviewed on a daily basis. Therefore, having opening and closing checks every day will allow you to keep on top of preparing for the next steps – even if it means staying on to complete some tasks – being prepared for the next day will change the way you work.
